PKAN: Probe the 5,000 missing  pages in  RCI report
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (Anak Negeri) has called for an investigation into claims that 5,000 pages of the report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Citizenship and Illegal Immigrants in Sabah were lost when the Federal Government made an announcement about the document in 2014.

Anak Negeri President Datuk Henrynus Amin (pic) said DAP leader Lim Kit Siang, who made such accusations around 2014, should revive the issue now that Pakatan Harapan is in power.

He said the allegedly missing pages were part of 361 memorandums, 177 exhibits and 211 witnesses’ testimonies made in public hearings by the RCI from January to September 2013.

Henrynus said if Lim’s allegations are true, those who withheld the evidence should be made accountable because people want to know exactly happened to the documents.

The former MP said sworn witnesses’ statements are important evidences that should not be removed from the report.

However, Henrynus agrees with Lim’s statement that the 2014 report is no longer satisfactory and fails to meet the needs of Sabahans.

“We agree with Lim who questioned the statement of [then-Secretary-General to the Federal Government Tan Sri] Ali Hamsa that the illegal production of identity cards – Projek IC – was financially, not politically motivated,” Henrynus said in a statement.

“Since the testimonies of witnesses involving political parties or politicians in the Projek IC investigation is not clear, I urge Lim to ask the federal authorities to review them.

“Based on the seriousness of the problem that has hit Sabah since 40 years ago, this is a great time for Lim to show his sincerity and commitment to the people of Sabah on the issue of illegal immigrants and counterfeit identification cards rampant in Sabah.” - Mail Mathew
