Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has been notified about the potential danger posed by a tilting utility pole near Timpohon gate in National Park, Kundasang.

“I saw this pole which was leaning severely towards the ground while hiking with my office colleagues to the gate from our hostel recently,” said ZAMBRY, the complainant.

He hoped the caretaker of the utility pole would carry out remedial work soon as possible for take of public safety.

“There are a lot of hikers passing through this area regardless by car or on foot everyday especially foreign tourists,” he said, adding that the consistent cold weather condition on that high ground would hasten the deterioration process for the base of the pole.

Apart from fearing for the safety of the climbers and park’s staff, he stressed there was a likelihood that power supply to the restrooms on Laban Rata including other facilities on the mountain would be affected should the pole hit the ground.

“There is a high chance that the nearest service poles will collapse if this finally happens as well,” he added.

A SESB spokesman, when contacted recently, assured that its staff at the technical section in that district would be asked to verify the complaint promptly.

“Our men will check its condition and do the necessary repair,” he added.

He advised members of the public to bear with them during the course of the repair work as the traffic along that narrow and hilly road might be interrupted. ss

“Our machinery will be at the site to facilitate the work,” he added.  (OV)
