Illegal 4-D: 52-year-old fined RM2,500

Kota Kinabalu:  A 52-year-old man was fined RM2,500 or two months jail on Friday for having illegal gambling paraphernalia.

Peter Lo pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having two lottery slips on Dec 1, last year at a coffee shop in Donggongon, Penampang.

The court was told by the prosecution that Lo was arrested by police who raided the place following a tip off and seized the 4D slips together with a handphone, a portable printer and RM359 cash.

Lo was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, upon conviction. Lo requested for a lenient sentence while Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit applied for an appropriate sentence.

The court ordered the seized money to be forfeited.

In another case, two men charged with having stolen valuables in 2017 were ordered to enter their defence.

Magistrate Afiq Agoes made the order against Affandy Zaini, 28, and Md Zaini Md Mahdi, 24, ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against them. The court set Feb 26 for their defence.

Affandy and Zaini, both jobless, were accused of having a stolen headset, jewelleries, gadgets and woman’s accessories belonging to ASP Chew Lik Han and Rani Maan at 9.05am on April 13, 2017 in a housing area in Likas.

The prosecution had called nine witnesses during the prosecution’s stage.

Counsel Md Amirul Amin stood in for counsel Erveana Ansari, who represented the duo. The duo were charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, upon conviction.
