Kota Kinabalu: Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah Islamiah Negeri Sabah (Perkida Sabah) President Datuk Dr Muhammad Akjan Datu Ali Muhammad denied playing politics in wanting Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) in Sabah, but merely fulfilling the wishes of members.

He slammed Persatuan Peranakan Suluk Sabah (PPSS) Sec-Gen Datu Lakson Datu Majindi for questioning his (Akjan) move of registering Perkida members as PPBM members, saying Lakson should not be criticising or making unnecessary comments.

“Who is he (Lakson) who wants to teach me a lesson? He, instead, should open his eyes wide and see through my real intention recently (registering Perkida members into PPBM).

“What I did was to fulfil the intentions of my Perkida members as well as my friends who aspired to register as PPBM new members. Did I do anything wrong?” he said.

Lakson who is Persatuan Peranakan Suluk Sabah (PPSS) Sec-Gen had urged Akjan whose NGO supposedly comprises members from the Suluk community, “to stop playing politics but focus on his as well as Perkida’s role as a NGO”.

Lakson also said PPSS is more than capable of protecting the interests of Suluks in Sabah.

Akjan who is also Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Perpaduan Masyarakat Peranakan Suluk Bajau Sabah (PPSBS) President, said he does not have the right to stop Perkida members or his friends from registering as PPBM members as they have the right to choose which political party suits their needs and interests.

He said PPBM can also play an important roles in Sabah as a check and balance. “I am a strong supporter of Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and the party he is leading, Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) although I did not register as a Warisan member.

“In fact, I would not let anyone or any quarters to belittle or have any intention of toppling our Chief Minister although I am a lifetime member of PPBM. I joined PPBM to safeguard Islam and to strengthen the position of Shafie,” he said.

He believed Shafie is probably pressured by certain quarters trying to undermine Islam in Sabah and cited the State Government’s approval to organise the Oktoberfest in Sandakan last year.

Akjan also called on Lakson to focus on his role in PPSS and not to waste his time issuing unnecessary statements.

“I did not disturb Lakson’s NGO and I did not link anything with his NGO. So, I hope he would just mind his own business and not interfere in Perkida Sabah’s matters,” he said. - Hayati Dzulkifli
