Pistol and 28 bullets seized in Lahad Datu
Lahad Datu: Police seized a pistol and 28 bullets from the footpath of a shop in Kg Putuy, Jalan Pantai, here, on Sunday. District Police Chief ACP Nasri Mansor said the gun and bullets were believed placed at the footpath by a man.He said a team led by Inspector Muhammad Sobbri spotted a man in his 30s acting suspiciously by standing on a bridge near the shop around 7.45pm.

"The man was seen taking out a purple and white package and placed it at the footpath before attempting to flee after realising the presence of police.

"One of our men tackled the suspect onto the ground but he managed to get up and escaped by jumping off the bridge into the sea," he told a press conference here Monday.

Upon inspection, the package was found to contain a pistol with 28 9mm bullets. Nasri said initial investigations showed the gun does not belong to any police officer, but further investigation will be carried out on the gun's serial number.

The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalty) Act 1971 (Act 37) and Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960.

A manhunt for the suspect, believed to be a foreigner, has been launched and the public are urged to assist the police if they have any information regarding the case. - Eifa Rizan
