The tournament was held in conjunction with Hobbycon 2018 at ITCC Penampang Shopping Mall, recently.

In the Tekken 7 tournament, Qasim Meer 'Dark Way' from Pakistan wowed the crowds with his immaculate timing, allowing him to climb to the top and claim the champion spot.

His win resulted in him bringing home RM2,000 in cash prize as well as a Limited Edition set of the Marvel's Spider-Man PlayStation 4 Pro.

Muhammad Adriyansyah Jusuf 'SoG l Meat' from Indonesia came in second, bringing home RM1,000 in cash prize while Marwan Ghilan 'Shrimboo' from Yemen came third with RM500 in cash prize.

Wong expressed that it was amazing to see such a huge support from the community despite running the tournament for the second time.

He added that he would have never thought of the possibility of international players joining the tournament.

"Acknowledging international competitive scene has really given us a whole new level of perspective in our local esports scene.

"It was an eye-opening experience which has brought local players out of their comfort zone and motivate them to improve better by stepping up their game," he said.

Wong said because of this, he felt that this would open up more doors to the esports tournament scene in Sabah.

He added that if they are able to attract more competitive players from overseas in the future, then the exposure would be impact positively in the esports community as well as the tourism industry. - Locksley Ng
