Six-gold target
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's athletics squad are setting a six-gold target in the track and field events at the 10th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games in Brunei starting today (Friday).Despite the games being held to foster friendship among the competing countries, team manager Ali Aman said they will instead use the results from the competition to judge the progress of the athletes.

"We know this is a friendship games. But it is also good that we take this opportunity to expose our junior athletes and see their progress as we want to make an early preparation for the next Sukma Games in 2020.

"We have set a six-gold target as a challenge to the athletes and I hope it will motivate them to perform better. Chelsea Cassiopea Evali Bopulas and Marlin Hung William are our best bet to deliver individual gold medals in the competition.

"Chelsea will be competing in the 100m and 200m while Marlin is taking part in the 800m and 1500m, and I also expect winning runs from the women's 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relay teams as well," he said on Thursday.

Apart from Ali, the contingent departed on Wednesday with seven male and eight female athletes and also consists of coach Yazid Ahmad and chaperon Merrey Gabali. -GL Oh
