Sabah: Damansara MP Tony Pua (pic) is grateful that the gravity water supply project at Kg Sugiang Baru worth about RM150,000 and operated by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has been completed. He said the Impian Malaysia-operated project in Sabah is not new, adding that it has started even before Pakatan Harapan became the government. He said it began through the donations from the rakyat in the country, especially from the peninsular.ADVERTISEMENT "The Democratic Action Party (DAP) helped this NGO to organise various activities for the purpose of raising funds to generate community projects but (it has to be reminded) this is not DAP's money but the people's money especially from the peninsular who have hugely contributed to the Impian Malaysia funds which now amounts to RM1.6million. "In addition, we hold dinners to raise funds whereby each dinner reception can raise more than RM100, 000. Every year we raise funds for the rural community and within five years we raised RM5 million. "That's why we conduct a lot of projects and in Tenom alone we managed to complete gravity water supply projects in Kg Kelanaan, Kg Pangi, Kg Mosolog and not only that, we also carried out a solar project in Pangi and organised various health programmes whereby we bring medical doctors to treat villagers who needed treatment," he said. He said this when officiating at the Gravity Water Supply System Project in Kg Sugiang Baru, here, recently. ADVERTISEMENT He said similar projects were carried out in Keningau, Pensiangan, Kota Marudu and Pitas. On that note, Pua who is also the Political Secretary to the National Finance Minister, said that even though PH Government is facing with debts to the tune of RM1 trillion due to the extravagant spending of past government but the development and welfare issues of the people will be continued as usual.

Pua said there were a handful of government leaders in the past who carry out projects worth millions of ringgit while billions were allegedly deposited into the personal account of one leader but many in the rural complain because of poverty. "The Pakatan Harapan Government has to be cautious in managing national spending and has to be more prudent to control the debts rather than have it increasing. If we spend as we please, the national debts will be so bad that our children and grandchildren will end up having to pay the debts," he said. Pua said Sabah received an additional RM1billion allocation in the 2019 Budget to the previous RM4.3 billion making it RM5.3 billion for next year's budget.Meanwhile, Kemabong Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar also contributed RM15,000 from his assemblyman allocation to build a space to keep the water tanks before it is distributed to the residents.
