Cockfighting: Three nabbed
Keningau: Police arrested three men suspected of being involved in illegal cockfighting in a village, here, Monday evening.Acting District Police Chief ASP Lee Nyuk Kim said two live fighting cocks and RM230 cash believed to be betting money were also seized.

The suspects, aged between 45 and 52, have been remanded for investigations under Section 21 of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, he added.

"Acting on a report, a team from the Crime Investigation Department led by Insp. Roning Mulut, raided a hut in a paddy field area.

"About 30 people gathered at the area tried to escape upon realising the presence of police, but three of them were apprehended," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015 and, if convicted, they can be fined not more than RM100,000 or a jail term of not exceeding three years, or both. - Johan Aziz
