Sandakan MAHB holds 'plane crash' full scale drill

Sandakan: Some 18 passengers "perished" when an Airbus 320 of Mieya Airlines carrying 72 passengers "crashed" during the 8th full scale exercise at Sandakan Airport, Monday, here.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

In the simulation, the plane was said to be travelling from Kota Kinabalu bound for Zamboanga, Philippines when a technical issue occurred forcing the flight to return from its take-off point but ended up crashing within Sandakan Airport.
The full scale exercise organised by Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad led by Airport Fire and Rescue Services is aimed at ensuring the preparedness of relevant agencies in the event of an air disaster or other related cases.

Malaysia Airports Acting Group Chief Executive Officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said, it is committed in ensuring the safety of their passengers at all times and to always be tactically prepared in anticipating any emergencies.

"We remain vigilant in playing our role to safeguard our airports as well as the wellbeing of our passengers and stakeholder.
"It is imperative for us to practise and manage this aspect of airport operations to the best of our abilities when facing crises," he said.
This "Aircraft Accident on Airport" Full Scale Exercise was carried out as per the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), a document that encompasses measures and contingency plans to achieve coordinated action among all relevant stakeholders based on the defined guidelines.
More than 100 participants from various agencies such as Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), Royal Malaysian Police (RMP), Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM), Malaysia Civil Defence Department (APM), Medic team from Trauma and Emergency Unit of Hospital Duchess of Kent Sandakan and Air Asia Berhad, among others took part in the drill. - Mardinah Jikur
