Human trafficking: 27 nabbed in Tawau raid

Tawau: Twenty-seven human trafficking suspects, including 25 Indonesians, were detained in a raid on a house near a beach in Kg Kinabutan Tengah at Mile 4, here, early Sunday.District Marine Police Commanding Officer DSP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said the Indonesians had just landed in the country while the other two men were an IMM13 holder and a local. He said they comprised 14 men aged between 23 and 41, seven women aged between 23 and 48, and four boys and three girls aged between two and 15.

"The house was found to be occupied by the IMM13 holder aged 30 and 38-year-old local. Further inspection on the house discovered a total of 25 Indonesians who had just landed here from Indonesia," he added. Mohd Nazri said all the suspects were brought to Marine Police Office for further investigation and action. The case is being investigated under the Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrant Activity Act (Atipsom) 2007. - Lagatah Toyos
