GLC under probe for alleged irregularities

Tawau: A government-linked company is under probe for allegedly transferring its workers as a way of forcing them to resign, including claims that there was a disparity concerning their salaries. Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Human Resource Datuk Amir Omar told reporters on Monday that stern action will be taken against company bosses if the allegation was found to be true."If the investigation proves there's violation of labour rights being committed, stern action will be taken against the bosses," he said.

He was asked to comment on allegations that the GLC has transferred its workers to other locations as a tactic to force them to quit.He explained that under existing laws, the company bosses can be penalised if found guilty of abusing their power to mistreat workers under their care.He stressed that the labour laws protect all workers in the state, including those from foreign countries. When asked about claims by workers that the amount of salaries they received did not tally with the amount written on record, Amir said they should lodge a formal complaint so that investigation can be carried out.

He said they can file their complaint online and their identity will not be disclosed to their employer. He was met after opening the Sabah Labour Convention 2018, the third to have been held in the state after one in Kota Kinabalu and another in Sandakan.
