Murder of husband: British woman remanded

Langkawi: A British woman (pic) has been remanded for six days for allegedly murdering her husband here on Thursday (Oct 18) morning.The 62-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly stabbed her husband in the 2.30am incident after an argument broke out between them at a bungalow in Kampung Gelam. Police rushed to the scene after receiving a call from the couple's neighbour, who found the 62-year-old man sprawled in the bedroom.Police recovered a 30cm-long knife at the scene, believed to be the murder weapon.ADVERTISEMENT The police applied for a remand order on the suspect at the Alor Setar Magistrate's Court.Alor Setar Court's assistant registrar, Jamaludin Elias, granted a six-day remand order from Oct 18 to 24.The suspect arrived at the court complex escorted by a policewoman and a few plainclothes police officers at about 1.30pm by public ferry from Langkawi at 11.30am.Her husband's body has been sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for a post-mortem examination.ADVERTISEMENT She was escorted from the court lock-up area at 2.45pm and taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital mortuary to identify her husband's body.The suspect was seen with a shocked expression on her face.

The couple had been staying in Langkawi for the past 11 years under the Malaysia My Second Home programme.Langkawi OCPD Supt Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
