KK police implement the e-waste disposal system
Kota Kinabalu: The city police headquarters became the second after the Penampang police station to implement the proper Electric and Electronic Waste (e-waste) disposal system enforced by the Environment Department. More than a quarter million ringgit worth of cyber gambling machines, including computer sets, were destroyed using environment-friendly methods on Thursday.

City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the items totalling 1,380 pieces were seized between 2002 and 2014.

"The court cases involved have been settled, that is why we are now disposing of the seized items," he said during a press conference at the Sabah police headquarters in Kepayan, near here. Habibi said a contractor has been tasked to get rid of the items using e-waste disposable methods to reduce pollution.

Among the items disposed of were monitors, CPUs, gambling machines, keyboards, mouse and printers.

"The city police will be conducting continuous raids to make sure that gambling activities will not get active," he said. Also present to witness the disposal of seized items were officials from the Sabah Environment Department, Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Public Works Department. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
