Tawau: Kampung Pasir Putih Baharu villagers, one of the largest settlements in the district, were shocked when informed that the settlement which housed more than 5,600 people had no legal grants and had never been gazetted. The village's Community Activist's (Penggiat) chairperson, Noorala Muh Tang said the matter was only known when they tried to register their organisation at the Registrar of Societies (ROS) recently which then requested the village gazette grant.Noorala said they felt sad and surprised by the real status of their village because they thought that the 20-year-old village had been gazetted and had a group grant as often told to residents over the years.ADVERTISEMENT "We are aggrieved when referring to the Tawau Land and Survey Office (JTU) (for the purpose of registration of the ROS), we were informed that the village had never been gazetted but was listed as squatters, said Noorala, adding that the village have various government infrastructure.Noorala hoped the department would gazette the village as a legitimate settlement for the survival of future generations and be granted individual land grants instead of group grants.Noorala said this when met by reporters at the Meeting and Dialogue Session with the Director of Sabah's Land and Survey Department here, recently, which was officiated by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Department, Datuk Jimmy Wong.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
