Zahid expected to be charged tomorrow

Kuala Lumpur: Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to be charged by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) tomorrow (Friday).He has received a notice to appear at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 3pm today (Thursday) and will be charged the next day.Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam called on the people, particularly Umno leaders and party members, to attend the gathering #Solidariti4PresidenUMNO at the MACC headquarters at 9pm today (Thursday) and 8am the following day at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

"Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, President of Umno, has been given a notice of surrender at 1.45pm today."He needs to be present at MACC headquarters at 3pm tomorrow and is expected to be charged on Friday."Let us come to the defence of our president who is now a target of the cruel Mahathir-DAP regime. Do not let our president stand alone," he said.The former Deputy Prime Minister was summoned by the anti-graft agency for a straight three days last week in connection with alleged misappropriation of Yayasan Akal Budi funds.

According to previous reports, Zahid had been asked to explain claims that RM800,000 in Yayasan Akal Budi funds were used to pay credit card bills belonging to him and his wife.Zahid is the chairman of the foundation, which was set up in 1977 with the aim of eradicating poverty.

He has denied any wrongdoing, saying his officer had mistakenly used the foundation's money to pay the credit card bills.Meanwhile, his daughter, Nurulhidayah, also called on everyone to offer prayers for the family."I will also be present at the gathering tomorrow and on Friday."I will be there to defend my father who is a target of cruel injustice," she said.Meanwhile, the Umno Supreme Council is to discuss the position of party Ppresident Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is assisting a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission probe into alleged misappropriation of the funds of a foundation.This was disclosed by Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid who said the supreme council will be convened to determine the matter if Ahmad Zahid is to be charged as alleged in a social media message."Let's wait and see if there is confirmation from the MACC and Ahmad Zahid himself," he said to reporters at the Parliament lobby.It was reported Wednesday that Ahmad Zahid has been asked to present himself at the Putrajaya MACC headquarters today (Thursday), for the sixth time, over the probe into the case.An MACC source said Ahmad Zahid, who is the former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, has been requested to be at the MACC office at 3pm.Meanwhile, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said the position of Ahmad Zahid should be determined by the supreme council.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
