Penampang: Fresh from the success of this year's Rafting Festival, several villages along lower Moyog River, led by Petcy Bedion, decided to call themselves "Gakit Moyog" to conduct raft river cruises under the Penampang Tourism Council. One of the conditions from the authorities is they must assist in cleaning up the river of flotsam, especially plastic. Hence, they decided to recycle three rafts that were used in the raft race during the festival as rubbish trap on one of the drains joining the river."It is a temporary measure subject to monitoring and we will discuss further improvement," said Petcy. ADVERTISEMENT However, the group also hoped the State Government would build more rubbish traps especially on the "Parit Juta" which is a drainage canal under the Drainage and Irrigation Department. At the same time, they urged every resident in the district to love the environment, especially the river, by not throwing any rubbish especially plastic.
