Wipe out illegal gambling: CM

Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal called on Sabah police to go all out to wipe out the illegal gambling scourge in the State.Mohd Shafie said he was saddened and upset that the presence of illegal gambling centres, which promote cyber gambling especially, had caused hardship to poor families."The money meant to upkeep the family is wasted on gambling and I hope the police will go all out to wipe out this menace," he said after receiving a courtesy call from the new Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah, here, Tuesday.

Accompanying Omar during the courtesy call were the Sabah Police Contingents' top officers.Mohd Shafie also advised members of the police force to carry out their duties without fear or favour as they go about combating crime.The Chief Minister also urged the police to base their air wing in the east coast of Sabah where aerial patrols were needed most to combat cross-border crime, especially kidnap-for-ransom cases.Meanwhile, Omar said police would be meeting the community, fishermen, tour operators and fish farmers on the East Coast of Sabah to explain and discuss issues on the Eastern Coast Security Zone (Esszone).

He said these groups were considered soft targets for cross-border criminal groups, especially kidnappers, to obtain ransom, so fishermen, tour operators and fish farmers should understand the question of security to reduce the risks of becoming victims of kidnappers.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

According to Omar, he will also visit the State's East Coast soon to look into the security situation on the ground.
