Kota Kinabalu: Gang "Pie" comprising three men, aged 26 to 36, with criminal records that have been active in five burglaries in the city were arrested by police here, Sept 17.

City Deputy Police Chief Supt George Rakhman said the arrest was made following a police report lodge by a complainant after his house was broken into with several items stolen from a wooden safe worth about RM25,000.

"According to the victim's neighbour, a Perodua Viva was used by the suspects to monitor the situation before carrying out the crime.

"The arrest was made in two locations where the first two suspects were held at a housing area in Sulaman at about 9am.

"Interrogations were carried out which led to another arrest in Inanam while the main suspect, known as Pie, was held about 9.45am," he told reporters at a press conference at IPD KK, here, Monday.

George said several items were also confiscated from the trio comprising laptops, cameras, watches and receipts believed to be from pawnshops where the suspects pawned gold items worth about RM40,000 along with the car used by the suspects.

He said the suspects have been active since January this year in five different cases around Inanam, Menggatal and Luyang involving items worth about RM105,000.

"These three suspects were active for quite some time and resume their operation after they were released from prison. They have been involved in several cases such as burglary, theft, drug abuse and extortion," he added.

George said the suspects were tested positive for drugs and the case will be investigated under Section 456 of the Penal Code that carries five year jail term and fine, upon conviction.

He also reminded the public to be alert and cooperative by informing the authorities immediately in case of any crime they witnessed. - Jeremy S Zabala
