PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) is not hiding the fact that that several Umno leaders have come to meet him recently.The Chief of Pakatan Harapan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia said anyone could come and see him and Umno leaders were likewise free to meet anyone they chose to. "They came to see me; I see everybody. After seeing me they see PAS."We are free, not like before. Before, if you see 'wrong' people, the income tax people will come after you," he said at a press conference after chairing a meeting of the Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption at Perdana Putra here on Friday.

Asked whether former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein had stated his desire to join Pribumi at a recent meeting with him, Dr Mahathir said that matter was not discussed."He came to see (me), nothing about joining PPBM. He has his own ideas. You'd better ask him," he said.He also said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) has evidence that a number of Umno leaders are "living beyond their means."However, he stressed that the graftbuster's investigation into Umno members was not initiated at his behest.

"(The investigation was not based on) an instruction given by me, in order for (Umno members to feel pressured into) joining Bersatu," he said.Dr Mahathir said that the MACC has the right to decide to investigate anyone they suspect of having committed a crime, including journalists.
