Labuan abandoned building issues to be resolved soon
Labuan: Issues on abandoned building on this duty-free island will be resolved soon, said Labuan Corporation (LC) chief executive officer Datuk Azhar Ahmad. He was referring to the Labuan Hotel building, which had been abandoned for more than three decades and being considered for redevelopment by the Finance Ministry (MOF).

"We are aware that the building has been an eyesore to the public and to this effect, Labuan Corporation has already submitted a number of development proposals to MOF for consideration."

"We hope MOF will come up with a decision soon on what is best for the building," he said.

Azhar was commenting on the dilapidated hotel building and also the old food court at Labuan's downtown area that have become eyesores to visitors, as highlighted by Bernama News Channel (BNC) last Sept 17.

He said action would also be taken against the four-star hotel Billion Resort Hotel (formerly known as Waterfront Hotel) which was no longer in business and under bank receivership. The hotel has been in dire state for several months with its overgrown bushes and rubbish scattered around the compound.

"Notice will be issued to the hotel's appointed receiver and manager to carry out cleaning works and keep the place in safe and tidy condition," he said.

On the food court at Labuan's downtown area, Azhar hinted that it would be turned into a parking area.

"The time for submission of work quotation has closed and we will appoint the eligible contractor for the job," Azhar said. – Bernama
