PKR in favour of Labuan bridge
Labuan: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR),vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said it favours the long-standing Labuan-Menumbok bridge proposal as it is a safe, secure and efficient form of connectivity for people from both the island and mainland Sabah."When we are using that route ( Labuan-Menumbok bridge), it makes so much sense to ease transportation to ensure the locals here can frequent neighbouring areas in a safe, secure and efficient way.

"And I believe this could be a focus for the government of the day, but of course it is subject to many other studies and deliberations," she said.

She said being a Member of Parliament of another constituency does not mean one should be ignorant to the aspirations of citizens in other parliamentary constituencies.

"As this issue falls under the ambit of the Federal Territories Ministry, I will be writing to Khalid Samad in regards to the need to realise the bridge, in whatever capacity.

"As a member of parliament in our respective constituency, we have eyes and ears, and when you see what the people are facing, of course you have to do your bid.

"Certainly there are issues to be addressed, what more to issues affecting the people of Labuan," she told reporters after attending the "Jelajah Reformasi 20 Tahun Bersama Rafizi Ramli" here on Tuesday night.

Nurul Izzah said she and her group were glad to take the speedboat from Menumbok to Labuan, as it provides some depth to them when they came to the island.

Khalid, when in Labuan last weekend, disclosed that the RM15 million techno-economic feasibility study on the proposed Labuan-Menumbok bridge had been scrapped due to its unreasonable high cost, but that the project was still under consideration. - Iffah Dilaney
