Pahang's 10-year domination of Sukma shooting

Ipoh: The Pahang shooting squad Wednesday set the record of dominating the Malaysia Games (Sukma) events for 10 years when they swept nine gold medals this time.Pahang won their ninth gold medal through the 25m air pistol men's trio comprising Low Wei Chern, Muhammad Ridwan Awaluddin and Syaidiq Hanif June Hassen with 1,669 points to equal the Games record in the 19th Malaysia Games at Darul Ridzuan Shooting Complex in Chepor, here.The trio defeated Terengganu's team of Muhammad SyafIqrul Firdaus Mohd Husni, Nik Muhammad Luqman Nik Omar and Safirredzuan Salim who scored 1,663 points for the silver while the bronze medal went to Mohammad Ezwa Mohd Haizat, Umar Fareed Faroukh and Wafiq Mohamad Zin of Negeri Sembilan with 1,661 points.

Team manager, Al Muhaimin Ali said Pahang have been exposing new talents from the state to maintain the Sukma record for the state.Pahang has also been engaging Russian coach, Elena Sotnik to train its athletes since 2000. "In Sarawak two years ago, we were the overall champions with 12 gold medals and this time our target is nine gold medals.
