Penampang: Police believe they have solved at least 23 burglary and theft cases in the district following the arrest of two siblings who are members of "Gang Emas." Penampang District Police Chief DSP Haris Ibrahim said police also seized RM30,000 worth of jewellery, RM5,000 worth of electrical equipment and other items.He said the total losses of the victims were estimated at RM347,000.

"The first suspect aged 30, a local, was arrested on Sept 6 at Kg Pogunon near here by a police patrol team after he was found acting suspiciously."The arrest of the suspect then led to the arrest of his brother, 35, at Buhavan Square at about 11am," he added.
He said the suspects' modus operandi was to break into the village houses while their occupants were out working during the day. According to Mohd Haris, interrogation of the two suspects, both unemployed and actively involved in burglary and theft crimes in the districts of Penampang and Papar since October 2017, led to the discovery of jewellery and other items believed to be proceeds of their criminal activities.
