Chaos at Putatan PPR event
Putatan: Law and Native Affairs Assistant Minister Uda Sulai regrets the chaotic situation during the People's Housing Project (PPR) forms distribution that led to the Dewan Sri Putatan being damaged, Tuesday."I hope the public will be patient with the situation that happened today (Tuesday) as there are incidents of pushing that caused the glass doors to break following the scuffle. We hope that the weakness in management and the cooperation of the public will be overcome to ensure that such incident will not repeat in the future," the Petagas Assemblyman said in a statement.

More than 6,000 people lined up to take their forms for 500 units under the PPR scheme with the public gathering at the hall compound as early as 6am.

However, the situation was managed peacefully by police and Rela.

Each form cost RM5 per piece that was managed by the Putatan District Council.

A video of people gathering at Dewan Sri Putatan went viral over the application of the low cost housing project. Along the video, a picture was also shared stating that Putatan PPR forms are being sold at the hall from Sept 18 to 21 starting at 9am to 4pm.

The picture also stated that those interested are eligible if the applicants are Malaysian citizens, single mothers, underprivileged, have income less than RM3,000, fire victims and for those who do not have property.

It was like a repeat of the incident on Jan 2016, where a mad scramble for PPR scheme near Meruntum and Putatan ended with broken doors. A video of a stampede went viral showing a crush of people shouting as they stormed into a hall believed to be at the Putatan District Council office where people tried to get forms for the new PPR housing in the district, breaking the wooden doors in the process. - Jeremy S Zabala
