Found – teenager who fell into sea

Lahad Datu: The body of a teenager who fell from his boat while fishing along Pulau Timbun Mata waters, Kunak, on Sunday, was recovered on Wednesday.The body of Abdullah@Arkin Unung, 18, was located by a local fisherman and Civil Defense Force (CDF) about three nautical miles off Pulau Timbun Mata southeast about 4pm.

The body was taken to the Forward Operational Base (FOB) for identification by family members and handed to Semporna police headquarters for further action.

The victim and two friends went fishing on Aug 12 in the area about 7am using a pump boat.

The boat believed to have overturned following big wave and strong wind.

The victim could not swim while his two friends managed to be rescued by local fishermen.

Following the incident, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) through Kota Kinabalu Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) launched Search and Rescue (SAR) operation using ADAL 17 boat and BANGGI 09.

The SAR was also assisted by assets from other agencis such as Royal Malaysian Police Air Unit (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department, CDF, Angkatan Tentera Bersama and local fishermen boats.

The four-day operation was led by Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Operations Section Officer, Lt Madya (M) Wan Syarafuddin Jafni Wan Badarudin and the search sector covered 71 nautical miles around the Pulau Timbun Mata areas.
