Penampang: The Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) has conferred the Tindarama award posthumously to the late Datuk Maidom Pansai and Datuk Seri Liduin Mobijohn in recognition of their outstanding leadership and services within the purview of the association.Tindarama is a third class award after the Huguan Siou and Buhavan Sigah. It is given to an individual for his or her participation in promoting the objectives of the KDCA. Seven to 15 awards of this category are awarded to selected individuals at a time and the number is limited to 30.

The late Maidom was one of the pioneers of the KCA/KDCA Tindal leader and was the KCA/KDCA central committee member (1981-2001). He also served as KDCA vice president (1986-2001) and KCA/KDCA Kota Belud district coordinating committee chairman (1986-2001).

He was instrumental for the growth and development of KDCA within Kota Belud which currently has a total of 76 registered association branches.

His legacy includes the acquisition of a two-storey shoplot building at Kota Belud main township as the first landmark for KCA/KDCA in the district which now houses the KDCA district coordinating committee office.

He was also a Kota Belud Member of Parliament.

The late Liduin was once the chairman of the Society of Kadazan Penampang. He was a KDCA life member.

In 1981, when he was chairman of Kg Koidupan Grazing Reserve Land, he obtained an agreement from stakeholders to donate three acres for the construction of the Hongkod Koisaan.

He was known to be one of the most active members of the Koisaan Council of Elders and was a member of the Hongkod Koisaan Building Committee from 1988 to 1990.

The awards were presented by KDCA President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan to Lizawati Maidom (late Maidom's daughter) and Zachary Mobijohn (late Liduin's son).

The actual award ceremony was held on Aug 5 in conjunction with the 21st annual visit of the KDCA to Nunuk Ragang in Ranau and also the 34th commemoration of the installation of the Huguan Siou.

Other award recipients this year were former Chief Minister and Malaysian Ambassador to the Holy See Tan Sri Bernard Dompok and KDCA Treasurer General Datuk Joseph Paulus Lantip. Both were conferred the Buhavan Sigah.

Three others also received the Tindarama award. They were Dr George Anson Kunjan, John Paujik and Sebastian Dirih.

Based on a proposal by former Council of Elders, the KDCA Central Committee in a meeting in 2008 deliberated and agreed that considerations must be made by the association to confer titular awards in various categories for the official recognition of Kadazandusun leadership and services within the purview of the KDCA. - Leonard Alaza
