Tuaran lass creates history

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's national football and futsal player Masturah Majid created history by becoming the first Malaysian woman to play in a foreign futsal league.The Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) employee was first approached by Maldives Immigration Club- Magoo Stars in July to play for them in the Maldives League which starts today until August 25.

The Tuaran lass who also captained the national women's SEA Games football squad in 2017 expressed her gratitude to UMS Management especially Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. D. Kamarudin D. Mudin for allowing her to take part in the league.

"I am very thankful to the UMS management especially Professor Datuk Dr. D Kamarudin D. Mudin for their support in allowing me to go and play in a foreign league.

"This is a golden opportunity to broaden my experience in the sport and I will give my very best for my team in the league," she said.

Meanwhile, UMS Sports Centre Director Asyraaf Abdullah who also once coached the national women's football team said it is a great honour for Masturah to become the first women player from Malaysia to play aboard and it will certainly bring a good name for the country, Sabah as well as UMS. - GL Oh
