Illegals told not to take the Aug 30 deadline for granted

Kota Kinabalu: Surrender to the Immigration Department now or risk being arrested after August 30 – that is the message by the department to all foreigners in the country without documents.Regardless of their nationalities those who are not in possession of proper documents and work permits are strongly reminded not to take the warning for granted, Director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said to both illegals and their employers .All employers with illegal workers who have yet to surrender under the 3-1 Programme should do so before the programme expires by the end of next month.ADVERTISEMENT "Illegal workers and employers have been given till Aug 30 to surrender themselves. If they come after that date, they will be arrested. We will take action because this is the date set by the Home Minister," Mustafar reiterated.The 3+1 Programme is a voluntary surrender programme to enable all illegal immigrants in the country who are not eligible under the Rehiring Programme to return to their countries, voluntarily. The Rehiring Programme ended on June 30.ADVERTISEMENT "Come to us with valid documents, we will handle it well and complete the application as soon as possible, facilitation not frustration," Mustafar pledged.He added employers and illegal workers only need to pay a RM400 penalty and will not be charged if they surrender before Aug 30.
