Woman charged with duping another of RM2,500 to buy car

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed woman was charged in the Magistrate's Court Friday with six counts of cheating another woman of RM2,500 over the purchase of a car.Local Siti Hamidah Abd Hamzah, 34, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to committing the offences between Nov 21, 2017 and Dec 19 the same year at the Federal Administrative complex here.

The charges stated that Siti Hamidah allegedly cheating one Alus Mumin by making Alus to purchase a Perodua Axia from her.

Her trick caused Alus to transfer RM500, RM500, RM500, RM500, RM300 and RM200 to her bank account, respectively on Nov 21, Nov 25, Dec 2, Dec 8, Dec 11 and Dec 19.

The court set Aug 8 for case management and released Siti Hamidah on a bail of RM1,500 on each count in two sureties.

Each offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and fine, on conviction.

In another case, a 23-year-old jobless man claimed trial to burglary.

Mohd Azzan Amran is accused of breaking into a unit at Block 4, Kemuning flat at Tanjung Aru between 2.30pm and 4.53pm on June 24 along with an accomplice and stealing a cooking gas cylinder, a television, some cash and a watch.

The charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 14 years on conviction.

The court fixed Aug 6 for mention and offered Mohd Azzan on a bail of RM5,000 in two sureties.

Meanwhile, a security guard pleaded not guilty to disposing of the stolen cooking gas cylinder.

Bonnie Juvillis, 31, is alleged to have committed the offence at Block 4, Kemuning flat house in Tanjung Aru at 2.30pm on June 24.

The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

He was offered bail at RM3,000 in two sureties pending mention of his case on Aug 6.

In another court, two people were jailed 10 months for having 0.07gm syabu.

Indonesian Sarman Darmo, 32, and local Jacinta Samsudin, 34, admitted before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the drugs on May 24 at Kg Petagas in Putatan.

Sarman was also ordered be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.
