Najib aware of LRT3's final cost: Guan Eng

Kuala Lumpur: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is aware of the final cost of the Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) project, says Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng."They (the previous government) first announced that the project costs RM10 billion, but many things were excluded. The total cost should be RM32 billion instead of RM10 billion. The former Prime Minister knows about it," he said at a special luncheon organised by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia's (ACCCIM) on Friday (July 20)."We know that if the Government wants to cancel the project, traffic congestion problem will become more serious. At the same time, it will need to pay compensation," he added. Lim later told reporters that Najib should answer the questions asked by Tony Pua but did not elaborate further on the matter.

On Wednesday (July 18), Pua, the special officer to the Finance Minister, had urged Najib to "stop feigning innocence" over the inflated cost of the LRT3 project.Prasarana Malaysia previously secured a government guarantee for a RM10 billion bond facility to fund the LRT3 project in 2015.In March 2018, Prasarana requested for an additional RM22 billion in government guarantee to ensure funding for the construction and completion of the LRT3 project. Najib had previously told Malaysiakini that the additional loans requested to fund the LRT3 project were not approved.Pua, in his statement said that Najib had "failed miserably" as Finance Minister.
