Kota Kinabalu: The 1Borneo Management Corporation Sdn Bhd (1BMC), the operator of 1Borneo Hypermall, firmly denied claims that one of its officer attempted to bribe Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) at Wisma SESB on July 13.1BMC in a statement said that the report of such nature was baseless and therefore, untenable.

"At all material times, all dealings and matters pertaining to SESB, whether in the form of meetings, without-prejudice negotiations and correspondences were attended to and dealt with by only two authorised representatives of 1BMC.

"The two authorised representatives were extremely puzzled over the news coverage with regard to the report lodged by SESB to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the bribery attempt by an officer of 1BMC," said the statement.

"1BMC should not be held liable of any form misrepresentation by unauthorised representatives other than the two authorised representatives of 1BMC.

"We urge any party dealing with 1BMC to request for an authorisation letter for verification purpose before dealing with them.

The statement said 1BMC is the midst of negotiation with SESB on the proposed settlement plan for the outstanding bills and reconnection of the electricity supply to 1Borneo Hypermall.

"On July 16, 1BMC submitted a final proposed settlement plan to SESB. In the event of 1BMC not able to reach an amicable settlement with SESB, 1Borneo Hypermall may be forced to shut down.

"We trust that the above statement clarifies the concern of the public on the speculation of bribery attempt by any officer of 1BMC," said the statement.

On Monday, it was reported that an unknown individual allegedly tried to bribe a SESB officer in exchange of power supply to 1Borneo Hypermall to be reconnected without paying the arrears as demanded by SESB.

In a statement issued by SESB, the alleged incident occurred at Wisma SESB on July 13.

Subsequently, the SESB officer lodged a complaint with MACC at their office here for further investigation.
