Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Under 19 squad acting team manager Lokman Sunggim hailed his team's performance in their 3-0 thrashing of SSBJ at the Penampang Stadium on Sunday. The team took a two-goal lead in the first half through Shahrizan Saidin with the opening goal and the second from Faqhrurazi Ahmad before Syann Elven Steven scored from the spot kick in the second half for the third.

The result also meant that the team have won their first back-to-back league games at home this season following their 3-0 win over Pahang a week earlier.

"The team was playing well and our goal at the start was to collect full points at home and I am obviously very pleased with the result and score line but also the performance and, more than anything else, the work ethic and application.

"I thought they worked really, really hard and ultimately that's why they got their rewards," said Lokman who was named the acting team manager following the departure of Azman Mastar last month.

He hoped the players will continue the winning form in their next match away against Penang at Padang A, USM on July 18.

"We will try to get another win in our next game against Penang away on July 18.

I hope the players can focus on this game and play even better than their last two games to strengthen the team target of reaching the quarterfinal stage," he added.

With four more group matches to go, the team are currently lying second in Group A with 25 points from seven wins, four draws and three losses.

They are 10 points behind leaders Terengganu but have a match in hand, and two ahead of PKNS in third. - GL Oh
