Jessica captures Macau title

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's Jessica Keng won another international title at the Macau Junior Squash Open 2018 held at the Centro de Bowling from July 5-8.The 15-year-old, who was seeded first in the competition, brushed aside second seed Cheryl Li Wing Sze from Hong Kong 11-7, 11-8, 11-3 in the final of the girls Under-17 event on Sunday.Earlier in the semi-final she thrashed another Hong Kong player Mak Yi Yan 11-1, 11-5, 11-3 in a one-sided match.ADVERTISEMENT Her teammates Kayden Liaw and Nicholas Tan also did well to finish in third and fourth place respectively in the boys Under-19 events.Kayden, who was beaten by eventual winner Chan Chi Ho 6-11, 5-11, 11-7, 4-11 in the semi final, beat Nicholas 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 in the playoff to claim the third spot.Nicholas had earlier lost his semi-final match to Wong King Yeung 5-11, 8-11, 1-11.The team was led by team manager Connie Lo and coach Bryan Faurillo.ADVERTISEMENT Meanwhile, four other Sabahans took part in the Ohana National Squash Championship in Bukit Jalil from July 4-8.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Lai Wen Li, who lost her quarterfinal match to Rachel Arnold 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 4-11, was the best finisher to take the fifth spot in the women's Premier category after beating Ooi Kah Yan 11-9, 11-3, 10-12, 11-3 in the playoff. Lai had earlier in the opening round defeated fellow Sabahan Yee Xing Ying 11-7, 13-11, 11-9.

In the men's Premier category, Mohd Farez Izwan finished in 11th place while Duncan Lee was ousted in the first round. - GL Oh
