35 escape unhurt in LD bus-lorry crash

Lahad Datu: All 35 passengers of an express bus escaped unhurt after it was involved in an accident with a cargo lorry at Km 13, Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan, Wednesday.It is learnt that the bus was heading towards Tawau from Kota Kinabalu while the lorry was travelling in the opposite direction when the incident occurred at about 2.40am. District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said preliminary investigation showed the incident occurred when the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a motorcycle without any lights in front of it.ADVERTISEMENT "While trying to avoid the motorcycle, the bus veered to the opposite lane and hit the right side of oncoming cargo lorry."The bus and cargo lorry then skidded to the left side of the road and landed in a ditch," he said. Fortunately, Hamzah said all 35 passengers inside the bus escaped unhurt. However, the bus driver and its second driver suffered minor injuries. The case will be investigated under Section 43(1) of Road Transport Act 1987. - Eifa Rizan
