Suhaili is favoured to head Labuan Warisan

Labuan: Some founding members and polling centre chiefs of Parti Warisan here had pledged support to former MP Datuk Suhaili Abd Rahman to lead the party in Labuan.After the Warisan's candidate defeat in the island by a slim majority, the big question often asked by most was who is the most competent person to lead and keep the party's momentum going.The support was given to Suhaili after all those present at a closed-door meeting here, Tuesday night, unanimously agreed that the former MP was the best candidate to strengthen the party here.ADVERTISEMENT Founding member John Kulas said the agreement to support Suhaili to lead the party was based on his track record as former Labuan MP and former chairman of Labuan Corporation (LC) in administering the island economically and financially."We believe he can unite the multiracial community on the island and voice out the people's needs to both the Sabah and Federal Government," he told reporters.He said the mutual meeting was a follow up to a discussion at Suhaili's recent Hari Raya Open House at his residence.Pro-tem Chief Salim Abdul Rahman also welcomed Suhaili's willingness to join the party.ADVERTISEMENT Among those attended the meeting were founding member Lawrence Jomiji Kinsil, who is also the former chairman of Sabah/Labuan Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA), Alia Attar, Labuan Warisan pro-tem women chief Gutak Ag Besar and other Warisan Labuan polling station heads."It all started when a group of us went to Suhaili's Hari Raya open house last week and we took the opportunity to discuss with him on the party's leadership here, and we initiated a meeting last night at a hotel with other founding members and offered him to take the lead," Lawrence said.

He said despite having been suspended from Umno, Suhaili continues to serve the people.After lengthy deliberation with the pro-tem committee, Suhaili expressed willingness to strengthen the party here provided he is given the trust of the party's founding members, endorsement from the top leaderships and support from the grassroots.He added that the support he had received thus far was a positive sign for his return in the island's political arena.Suhaili was a two-term Labuan MP, having earned good reputation in the area of the Labuan development.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

During his tenure as MP, he had transformed the island's development landscape with a number of infrastructure development taken place.The infrastructure development includes the establishment of Rancha-Rancha Industrial Zone (for oil and gas related sectors), Labuan Airport, road infrastructures and village roads, International Lawn Bawl Arena, International Ferry Terminal, International Sea Sports Complex and Labuan Halal Hub among others. - Iffah Dilaney
