Green building rating sysytem ready, says NGO

Kota Kinabalu: The final draft of the Borneo Green Building rating tools for hotel resort, villas, chalets and lodges where the Sabah Chapter was entrusted by the ministry to study and draft for resorts or hotels that intent to apply for green resort is ready for implementation throughout Sabah.The final draft was presented by the Malaysian Green Building Confederation (MGBC) Sabah Chapter Chairman Benny Song during a courtesy visit to Deputy Chief Minister cum Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Christina Liew, Monday.

The courtesy visit on Thursday was led by Song and accompanied by Immediate Past Chairman Mok Juang Yu, Deputy Chairman Datuk Gerald Gog, Vice Chairman Sim Sie Hong, and Honorary Treasurer Anthony Wong, Committee members Robert Chiang, Jess Vun, and Datuk Ho Jia Lit.

According to the minister, the proposed Green Rating Tools is a positive development to the tourism industry in Sabah and had huge potential to attract high-end tourists to the State.

The minister had agreed to form a working committee with MGBC Sabah Chapter through the Sabah Tourism Board for the implementation of Green resort tools in Sabah.

MGBC Sabah Chapter had also during the courtesy visit, proposed to Liew of the need to form a Sabah Green Council to formulate and put in place a proper green policies for the State for a better quality of life.

Song also offered its assistance to establish the Green Council should the Cabinet approve its formation.

The minister welcomed the idea and had agreed in principle to the proposal and would look into the details as well as bring up to the State Cabinet for further deliberation.

During the visit, MGBC Sabah Chapter also briefed the Deputy Chief Minister about MGBC Sabah Chapter which was formed in 2015 and had since then worked closely with City Hall, Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Local Government and Housing on the implementation of green policies.
