Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old local who threatened to hurt his neighbour in Manggatal was sentenced to seven months' jail.Unemployed Jeffry Samijo pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to committing the offence to one John Mosito, 55, at 10pm on Feb 20, this year at Kg Tenggiling, Jalan Keliangau.

The facts of the case stated that Jeffry threatened John by saying "Aku bakar rumah kau, aku cincang-cincang kau macam sasau (I would burn your house, I would slaughter you like char siu)".

The incident occurred due to a misunderstanding between the two neighbours, said Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting.

John later lodged a police report as he feared for his safety.

The court ordered Jeffry to serve the jail term from the date of his arrest on June 6, this year.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man claimed trial to trespassing into a house in Penampang.

Mohd Shawal Justin Abdullah claimed trial to committing the offence at 10am on May 11, this year at a housing estate.

Counsel Farazwin Haxdy, representing Shawal, applied for a lower bail amount on the grounds that he was unemployed and has to look after his wife and two children.

The court set July 12 for mention and released Shawal on a bail of RM4,000 in two sureties.

The charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to three years or fine, or both, on conviction. - Jo Ann Mool
