Suspect held over Lahad Datu murder of man over RM300 debt

Lahad Datu: Police here believe they have solved the murder of a 30-year-old local who was slashed to death over a RM300 debt with the arrest of a man on Wednesday. District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said the suspect was detained inside an unnumbered house in Taman Harapan at 10.56am. "Following a tip-off, a Crime Investigation Division team raided the house and found the suspect.

The suspect will be remanded to assist in investigation of the case which was classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.Hamzah said the arrest was the result of the police's effort to track down the suspect, assisted by the General Operations Force (PGA), marine police, IPK Sabah Tactical Unit and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).On Tuesday, a local man was killed while his 11-year-old brother in law was injured after they were attacked by the suspect using a machete (barong) inside a Perodua Axia at Taman Warisan 4, here.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect got angry as the victim had repeatedly asked for his RM300 debt.

Following the attack, the victim suffered severe wounds to his neck and died at the scene while his brother in law sustained injuries to his hand. - Efa Rizan
