Uphold loyalty and do not betray friends: CM

Sandakan: Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman on Saturday stressed the importance for people to evaluate what is true as well as to be loyal. "I was taught from day one since joining politics not to sabotage my friends. Sabah's Father of Independence, Tun Datu Mustapha, also taught me not to betray my friends, party, people and country. "Most important, Islam also teaches us to be sincere in our fight and be fair in whatever actions towards every race," he said, when officiating the Majlis Jalinan Kasih Bersama Nelayan Sandakan and the launching of Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan Sandakan (Pelibar) at the Dewan Masyarakat Sandakan, Saturday.ADVERTISEMENT Musa said fishermen's contribution is greatly appreciated, adding that the government is well aware of fishermen's role in the country especially in the food industry. He said various assistance have been given to fishermen in addition to the monthly allowances. "Fishermen are also assisted by the National Fisheries Development Authority (Federal Government) and Ko-Nelayan (State government)," he said. He said farmers and breeders are also not left out from receiving assistance. ADVERTISEMENT "The government continues to be committed in helping the people regardless of race and religion," he said.At the event, he presented disaster aid amounting to RM65,000 to 13 recipients comprising fire victims of Batu Sapi, RM50,000 worth of assistance to six participants at the Touch Point Beluran, RM30,000 worth of allocation for the Pemantapan Organisasi PNK Libaran programme, and RM450,000 worth of funds to the Pemantapan 15 PNK programme across the State where each PNK received RM30,000.

Allowance of RM2,059,200 was also donated to the Elaun Sara Hidup Nelayan PNK Sandakan. He also said that he will look into the request submitted by the Libaran PNK. The PNK Libaran started since 2012 and was approved in February this year under the supervision of the National Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM). It is the 49th PNK in the country and the 15th in Sabah. It is hoped that the PNK Libaran atau Pelibar will look into implementing long term and short term measures to repair fishermen houses, build fish market, build a fishermen-friendly jetty, and develop the fishermen community in Libaran, among others. In Sabah, a total of 285 units of fishermen's houses has been repaired between 2012 and 2018 involving an allocation of RM34 million, RM3.5 million for Sandakan under the Program Pembaikan Rumah in addition to the construction of 300 new houses in Kota Belud with an allocation amounting to RM19 million. Apart from that, focus is also given on repairing bridges, fishermen house and fish loading and unloading area over the past three years. Meanwhile, opening the Teacher's Day Celebration and Excellence Award at Sandakan District level (Libaran Parliamentary) at Dewan Serbaguna Libaran, earlier, he said the roles and services of educators in Sabah have always been appreciated by the government. Children's education development has also been prioritised. "Every year, the government allocates provisions for education and facilities as well as repairing schools and infrastructure needed," he said. A total of 120 teachers in the area received the Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang 2017 during the celebration themed Guru Pemacu Transformasi Pendidikan. Musa also presented the Anugerah Tokoh Guru Sandakan 2017 to Ng Kim Choy, 61, a former teacher from Penang. Ng last held the post of SMK Tungku principal in 2013 apart from being awarded Pegawai Cemerlang SIP+ 2013-2017. He also received several awards between 2004 and 2017. Also present were the Chief Mnister's wife Puan Sri Faridah Tussin, Sabah Education Director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul, Sandakan District Officer Sharif Mahada Sharif Attar, among others. Musa said the Federal Government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is committed towards the nation's education. "Allocations has been added each year to the education field," he said. "We are also on the right track and are not bankrupt as claimed by certain parties." Regarding the development of Sandakan and Libaran, he said, education funds have also been given, among them is the road facility to SK Merpati for students and motorists.
