Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysia Umno Grassroots Movement (Gaum) on Wednesday lodged a police report on the failed land purchase in Tongod, Sabah worth RM150 million involving the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda). The report was lodged by Gaum Chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters here.

Zulkarnain, in his statement issued after lodging the police report, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had arrested the vice-president of a local political party last January in connection with the case and was still tracking down a lawyer, Michael Persius Ubu, to facilitate investigations into the case.

According to him, it was learnt that Risda under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry had paid RM15 million as a deposit for the purchase of the land but the deposit was not returned to the agency even after the deal failed to materialise.

Zulkarnain said investigation papers on the case should also be opened as the loss of money was dubious.

He also called on the police to conduct thorough probe on all parties involved in the deal, including a former federal Minister.
