Labuan golfers lead Amateur Open

Labuan: Home golfer, Mohd Zariq Encho Suhaini Saturday carded a stunning four-under-par 68 to lead the opening day of the 34th Sabah Amateur Open Golf Championship 2018 on Friday.The tournament is being played at Labuan International Golf Club (LIGC), a par-72 course adjacent to Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus from April 13 to 15.

Sarawak's top golfer Lee Ka Tung carded a three-under-par 69, followed by local golfers Mohd Jafar Ahmat and Joannes Pius who shot two-under-par 70 and one-under-par 71 respectively.

Sabah's young talent Christopher James continued his fine form, tied with Md Zulehram Yakub of Brunei for fifth and sixth places with a shot under-par 72 in the individual standings.

Labuan lady golfer, Tracy Yong Sze Fern shot one-under par 71 to lead the first round of the Ladies' Open in a field of 18 golfers in the tournament.

A total of 134 golfers from Labuan, Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Kuala Lumpur and Johor took part in the annual event. – Bernama
