Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) clarified that the salary increase for its employees last year was 5.5 per cent and not 23 per cent as stated in a press release on March 20. The increase is to cover the cost of living.

In a statement issued by SESB here, Thursday, it was stated in the collective agreement involving all members that it was supposed to come into effect in 2016 but had to be postponed to 2017.

The adjusted collective agreement payment is the company's commitment towards the welfare of its employees, whereby it is implemented every three years. The adjustment is six per cent for executive staff and seven per cent for non-executives.

"The total cost works out to about six per cent of SESB's total operating costs.

As such, it does not have a significant impact on the company's cash flow," read the statement.

Meanwhile, in TAWAU, the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry in collaboration with the Energy Commission and SESB will be organising a two-day Sabah Power Supply Open Day at Eastern Plaza, here, from March 24-25.

The programme was extended to Tawau following encouraging response in conjunction with its first programme in Kota Kinabalu (Jan 22). The event is scheduled to be officiated by Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching. "The event aims to provide an overview regarding the challenges faced in providing reliable power supply to the people in Sabah and the Government's plans to address such problems."

The programme will also give the actual picture of issues related to power supply disruption in the State.

Initiatives already proposed through the "Saidi 100 Lab" will also be displayed for public information in conjunction with the programme.

"This efforts proves the Government's concern towards power disruption issues and with close cooperation between the Federal and State governments as well as all parties involved, the Government believes that the Saidi rates in Sabah will be reduced to 100 minutes a year by 2020," said the statement.
