PETALING JAYA: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has suggested that he may be standing in a state seat or not be standing for election at all in the 14th general election (GE14).In a speech he made yesterday at his constituency of Gelang Patah, Lim recalled what he had said in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

"I said in what was probably my last speech in the 13th Parliament, that I did not know whether I would be back in Parliament in the 14th general election, but Malaysians must have a Parliament which they can feel proud of."

He may not have said it in so many words, but the likelihood of Lim admitting that he might not be returning to the Dewan Rakyat after GE14 was only if he was not going to contest in any parliamentary seat or if he decided to switch to a state seat instead.

The DAP parliamentary leader may have alluded to the latter by sharing about the willingness of his party colleague Yeo Bee Yin to leave her "comfortable" Selangor state seat of Damansara Utama, for her home state of Johor.

"This is a very bold, courageous and selfless decision, for Bee Yin would be leaving the Damansara Utama state assembly seat, which she won with the biggest majority of all Selangor state assembly seats five years ago.

"Bee Yin is following the example of DAP leaders like Johor DAP chairman nd Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong, as well as Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, in leaving comfortable and safe seats in Penang or Selangor for the unknown in Johor.

"She too faces the risk of not getting elected but for DAP leaders worth their salt, there can be no 'comfort zones' as they must be prepared to take risks so that Pakatan Harapan can succeed in its mission to create a national political tsunami in GE14," Lim said.

Liew was the Bukit Bendera MP in Penang after winning the seat in the 2008 general election, while Teo won the Serdang parliamentary seat in Selangor, in the same polls.

He added his hope for the Parliament to be elected in GE14 to be one which can give space to the Malaysian Dream of all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion, and one where more young Malaysians like Bee Yin can take their rightful places in Parliament.

Lim also called for all Pakatan Harapan leaders and activists to be prepared to make great personal sacrifices to create history in Malaysia, "like Bee Yin is doing".

"Let all parties in Pakatan Harapan – DAP, PKR, Amanah and Bersatu – work hard and in unison to create history in Johor and Malaysia and for the first change of the Federal government in the 61-year history of the nation."
