Jailed two years, fined RM6,000 for cheating man of RM1,000

Kota Kinabalu: A 51-year-old unemployed was jailed a total of two years and fined RM6,000 on two counts of cheating a man of RM1,000.William Bunga admitted before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to cheating Lucas Gunsalam of RM650 for the purchase of a television, purportedly seized by police.The offence took place on Jan 15 this year near the Yu Sang Supermarket in Kapayan, here.

On the second count, William pleaded guilty to cheating Lucas of RM350 for the purchase of a television, also purportedly seized by police.He committed the offence at 7pm on the same day at Petronas kiosk, Km 16 Tebobon.
The court sentenced William to a year's jail and fined him RM3,000 or three months' jail on each charge.Each charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and fine, on conviction.

William was ordered to serve the jail terms concurrently.In another case, a self-employed who pleaded guilty to causing hurt to a man will know his fate on March 19.

The court fixed the date for Oliver Poh Yan See, 24, while waiting for the victim's medical report.Oliver admitted to assault one Tang Kah Sing, 37, at 4.45am on March 9 outside the Maple Karaoke and Lounge in Penampang Baru.He faces a jail term of up to a year or fine if convicted under Section 323 of the Penal Code.Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man charged with criminally intimidating his former girlfriend was freed from the charge.Jobless Hajirul Halid was discharged and acquitted of the charge without his defence being called.
