Sandakan: The 15th edition of the Borneo Sevens rugby tournament kicked-off with some high-spirited actions at the Eagles Sports Arena, here, Friday.The first match witnessed Sabah Sukma women's team putting up their best against Sri Lanka where the game ended with a convincing 50-0 win for the latter.Hong Kong Dragon women's team fended off tackles from Eagles RFC Select well in the second match of the first day to clinch a 40-0 win.

The women team from Thailand had proven that they were not here for a holiday when they defeated the Islander Women Rugby Club (IWRC) 67-0 in the third game.Sabah Eagles met with an early upset when they loss 0-32 against the Singapore Select team.
In the men's team, Tribe 7s had given an early warning to other cup contenders with a 50-0 win against the Tainan Chang Jung Rugby Team (TCJRT).The Malaysia 7s team, too, performed well against Belgium Barbarian to win 21-14.

The young players in the developmental programme team, Sabah Sukma, showed great potential when they encountered the more experienced Hong Kong Dragon.However, the team from Hong Kong managed to grab a 47-0 win against the local players.

Other matches witnessed Mellowpuff won 49-0 against Tawau Rugby, Sri Lanka defeated IRC 80-0, and Thailand loss 0-57 to ICONZ.Day Two is expected to see more exciting actions as the defending champion Borneo Eagles will meet Thailand in the morning while they will make another appearance in the afternoon in a match against ICONZ.Another exciting encounter today (Saturday) would be between Tribe 7s and Malaysia 7s as both teams came with well-experienced players.
