IRB launches QR Code scanner for taxpayers

Kota Kinabalu: Taxpayers in the country are now able to enjoy more convenient tax services, with the launch of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) QR Code.Chief Executive Officer of IRB Malaysia, Datuk Sri Sabin Samitah, said this is one of the newer initiatives to ease the people's burden by providing the convenience of retrieving tax information without delays.

He said taxpayers with the QR code scanner in their smartphones would be able to access tax information instantly.

"With the QR code, they (taxpayers) can also make tax payments for individual, company, corporate, income, stamp duties, land and digital economies, as well as travel restriction and termination services.

"This is IRB's step towards digital transformation of tax matters, in line with its vision to make tax services easier and user-friendly," he said during a media luncheon at a hotel, here, Tuesday.

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government continued its momentum in managing the economy in line with the commitment and spirit of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) when it posted record high state revenue of RM6.973 billion last year.

Also present IRB Malaysia Vice Chief Executive Officer (Tax Operations) Mahmood Daud, Vice Chief Executive Officer (Compliance) Abdul Manap Dim, Sabah IRB Director Suhaili Sudin, IRB Malaysia Corporate Service Department Director Rozina Shaik Osman Merican and Communications Division Director Arief Putera Sharipudin.

Meanwhile, Sabin said Sabah generated a 15.5 per cent increase in tax collections in 2017 or 7 per cent higher than the national average of 8.15 per cent.

He said collections in the State last year grew RM532 million to bring its full year total to RM3.96 billion, compared to RM3.430 billion in 2016. "The increase was due to various factors such as economic growth in the country as well as heightened awareness from taxpayers of the importance of settling their dues," he said.

According to IRB's data, Sabah accounted for 3.21 per cent of the country's RM123.23 billion in tax revenue last year, which itself was RM9 billion more than 2016.

For 2018, the IRB is targeting to collect RM4.32 billion from Sabah and RM134.7 billion overall.

"We had to re-strategise after we experienced decreased collections for two consecutive years in 2015 and 2016.
