Man charged with gang rape of 17-year-old girl

Kota Kinabalu: A man was charged in the Sessions Court with the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl.Kamaruddin Amir pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, Monday.

He was charged together with another accused Sudirman Mahyuddin who claimed trial to the charge on Feb 21, this year.

Kamaruddin and Sudirman allegedly raped the girl together with two others who were not present in court, at a lodging house in Beaufort between 11pm on Sept 4 and 6am on Sept 5, 2017.

The offence under Section 375B of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between 10 years and 30 years, and whipping, on conviction. The court set July 2-3 and July 30-31 for trial where 13 witnesses would be called during the hearing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Husna Abdul Halim appeared for the prosecution while the duo was not represented.

In the same court, a man was fined RM20,000 for allowing four illegal immigrants to stay in his premises.

Jaheerusen Ahmadsha was fined RM5,000 in default five months' jail for each foreigner involved after he admitted to permitting them to stay at Restoran Maimunah, Alam Mesra at 4.15pm on Sept 1, 2017.

However, Jaheerusen's co-accused Zainal Abidin claimed trial to the charge.

The court set April 16 for case management and June 20 to hear the case.
