When we can be example to others
Kota Kinabalu: The culture of celebrating a festive with other races in the country is widely regarded as an example to other countries, said State Special Tasks Minister Datuk Seri Teo Chee Kang.He said as people live in a multi-ethnic and religious Malaysian society, Chinese New year is not merely celebrated by only the Chinese race.

"In fact, all the celebrations like Hari Raya, Thaipusam, Christmas, Deepavali, and etcetera are celebrated by all races in this beloved country.

"The spirit of racial unity and conseus among us must be maintained and further strengthened," he said in his speech during the final day of the 2018 Chinese New Year Carnival held at Padang Merdeka, here, on Monday.

Teo stressed that senior citizens and the less fortunate should not be ignored, especially during festive seasons.

"We have witnessed the unity and growth of all our races, and we must not forget the welfare of our elderly and the less fortunate.

"The spirit of our love and concern for the less fortunate should be raised, especially during festive seasons," he said.

Meanwhile, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China Liang Caide donated RMB 50,000 (RM31,005) to the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) as a support to fund more activities organised by the FCAS.

About 5,000 visitors came to spectate and shop during the three-day 2018 Chinese New Year Carnival since Saturday.

About 300 stalls and food trucks were opened during the carnival, creating a lively and vibrant carnival capturing the spirit of Chinese New Year.

Organised by the FCAS and City Hall (DBKK), various festival performances were held at the field varying from singing performances, traditional and modern dances, beauty pageant contest, lion dance performances, and fireworks show.

Also present during the event were FCAS President Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr TC Goh and Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, and Chairman of the 2018 Chinese New Year Carnival Datuk Susan Wong. - Locksley Ng
