Pekan: Two more Felda land schemes in Pahang will be developed under Felda 2.0 programme this year after it was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Felda Lurah Bilut on Feb 4.Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said the two land schemes were located in the Kuantan and Jengka regions even though their sites had yet to be identified.

"Felda is now awaiting feedback from the scheme managers in the two regions and the areas have to fulfill the conditions before being selected to join the programme.

"Felda has chosen Pahang as the state has the most settlers and has 115 out of 321 Felda land schemes in the country," he told reporters after a Land Grant Presentation ceremony to 229 Felda Chini 3 and 5 settlers here Monday.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob handed over the grants to settlers in the ceremony which was also attended by Pahang Felda Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Harun.

According to Shahrir, each area selected would be provided with an allocation of RM10 million by Felda and another RM10 million by the federal government to upgrade the living standard and facilities in the area.

Najib on Feb 4 launched Felda 2.0 at Felda Lurah Bilut as one of the government's initiatives to transform and give a new look to 317 Felda land schemes in the country.

The new initiative is not only focusing on creating a smart, sustainable and resilient Felda community but also in terms of economic and environmental sustainability.

At the same time, Shahrir hoped the government's move would encourage the second generation to live and to be involved in the new economic activity at their own place.

" They do not have to look for employment outside...leaving the old people in Felda while seeking a livelihood in another area as each Felda scheme has its a unique location and product which could be highlighted.

"So I am requesting the Felda management in the country upgrade by taking advantage of the speciality including tourist attractions to supplement the income of Felda residents," he said.

Shahrir also said 87 per cent of the land ownership titles for settlers had been resolved while the balance were being carried out in stages.

Meanwhile, Adnan reminded Felda residents not to listen to slanders in the social media which have ignored the history and struggle of past leaders in creating a land scheme as a source of income for the people. – Bernama
